| Andrew M. Harding and Michael Palmer met in 1977 at Cleveland College of Art it was here that they were introduced to clay and realised ceramics was the path to follow, finding great excitement in the versatility of the medium especially when thrown on the wheel. |
| After college Andrew served his apprenticeship at Bill Woods Pottery for six years and Michael did four years at Oak Tree Pottery where he met Matt Jobling. Following the closure of both potteries the three of them started Northumbrian Craft Pottery in 1986 in what was originally an old pit building in Backworth North Tyneside. |
| As both the previous businesses specialised in producing sprigged ware for tourist outlets and places of interest we decided to follow this route. Over the years we have supplied hundreds of prominent places of interest including numerous Historical Societies, Banquet Halls, Railways, Breweries, Galleries and many more. We have also been commissioned for work which has featured in Telewest’s Catherine Cookson Period Dramas and The Wire in the Blood Television Series. |
| Mat left after a couple of years leaving Andrew and Michael to continue developing the business by introducing domestic ranges and giftware. We are now spending more time working with copper red and translucent glazes on porcelain. This is enabling us to produce more individual pieces for gallery’s and exhibitions which we have marketed under our own names Harding & Palmer. |

| We have exhibited at Potfest every year since it began in June 1994 and over the years we have also exhibited at many other places including the Belford Craft Gallery in Northumberland, the Farfield Mill Gallery at Sedbergh and the Replenish Exhibition at the Saltburn Artists Project Ltd, the Green Man Gallery at Pickering and the Masham Gallery in North Yorkshire. We are currently exhibiting at the Bakers Dozen at The Round House Gallery Foston and the Inspired Ceramics exhibition at The Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough until the 16th March 2008. |
